Prepping for Storms in the Glass Industry

It's August. The weather is unbearably hot, and there is no end to the heat in sight.

We, too, are at the peak of hurricane season. It’s time to think about how the glass industry today copes with the difficulty of hurricane seasons each year. It’s mundane to think about glass and how it affects us daily. However, as homeowners, business owners, and everything in between, it’s important to think about as we face the future with our glass as storms in our future become ever more turbulent.

The prospect of safety in the future of glass technology, per the Data Drive Market Analysis, appears to be increasing in need. In the next five years, the market will likely increase due to “…the rising frequency and intensity of hurricanes, increasing urbanization, and the increased awareness of safety and property protection.”

The glass that is “in” and seems to be on trend in the storm prevention industry is laminated glass. The whole point of laminated glass is, in fact, the lamination, per Guardian Glass. The glass is laminated to shield people from the situation of breaking glass. Laminated glass controls the risk of injury by remaining mostly whole when (and if) it breaks. Guardian Glass also comments about how laminated glass can help prevent water and air from coming into a building. It’s expensive, but it’s high-quality glass that will minimize your risk of injury.

Finally, Strybuc Industries wants you to know that we care about you and want to make sure you’re always in good health. We want to remind you that in the peak of hurricane season, we would strongly encourage you to prepare a storm resource kit for you and yours. Here's a list of general resources that we think would be beneficial in kick-starting your kit

  • one gallon of water for one person (per day)
  • non-perishable food (make sure to stock up for a supply of several days)
  • a flashlight
  • a whistle or a flashing light for S.O.S and calling out for help
  • fully-charged cell phones
  • fully-charged backup or external chargers
  • copies of valuable documentation (birth certificate, marriage license, social security card, passport, etc.)

Strybuc hopes that you and your loved ones stay safe in this environmentally turbulent time of the year. If you need us, we're always a phone call away.
